Gyeongju Guide shows visitors to Gyeongju where things are and how to reach them. This policy says what the app actually sends and what it keeps, taken from the code rather than from a template.
From version 1.0.6, a Google AdMob banner appears at the bottom of the weather, events, travel tips, stories, areas, courses and 「More」 screens.
A native ad may appear below the content in 「Explore」. A banner sized to the screen may appear below the 「Suggested routes」 list. A native ad may include an image or video. There are no ads on the map, the buses, the taxi card or the Korean phrases. There are no full-screen or rewarded ads.
To serve and measure ads, Google AdMob may receive device and app identifiers (including the Android advertising ID and app set ID), IP address, device model and OS, ad impressions, taps and video views, and app launch, performance and diagnostic data. None of this goes to this app's server.
The app does not directly add the phone's GPS coordinates to ad requests. AdMob may still infer an approximate area from the IP address it receives.
How Google uses this information: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services
Apart from Google AdMob, there is no separate usage analytics, tracking or crash reporting library. The app does not read your contacts, call history, photo library or messages.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Your position on the map, distances, walking and driving directions, and turning a point into a Korean address | Used on the device. Coordinates are sent to this app's server and the relevant service only when you ask for directions or an address. The app does not attach your account or name to the request. |
| Kept places | 「My course」 | On this phone only. They are never sent anywhere, and they go when the app does. |
| Language and night setting | Opening the app where you left it | On this phone only. |
| Board posts | The nickname, text, language and time of what you write on the 「Traveler board」 | Stored on this app's server (Google Firebase) and readable by anyone using the app. Writers are told apart only by a hash of a random value kept on your phone; no name or device information is received. |
There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. The app does not ask for or receive your name, address, telephone number or photograph. The server keeps 「Traveler board」 posts and a short record of walking directions requests. Please do not put your name or contact details in a post.
Reviews of a place are the ones already on Google Maps, shown as Google provides them. You cannot write a review in this app. What you read was written by Google Maps users, to Google; this app only reads it.
Requests reach the services below, each under its own policy.
When you ask for directions or an address, coordinates are passed to the service concerned. The app does not send your account or name with the coordinates.
To limit excessive requests, this app's server stores a value derived from the request's IP address with a secret key, plus the request time, in Google Firebase. The original IP address, coordinates and destination name are not stored in this record. Only requests from the past 24 hours count. The record expires 24 hours after the last request; Firebase usually deletes it within another 24 hours, but deletion can take longer. The walking route is held in server memory for up to 15 minutes.
Uninstalling the app removes kept places and settings from your phone. Walking directions request records expire 24 hours after the last request and are then deleted automatically.
Delete a board post with 「Delete」 on the post. If you can no longer do that because you uninstalled the app or changed phones, email the text and time of the post to the address below and it will be removed.
The app is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it and the change is described here.
10 October 2026 — Added the transformed IP address, request time and retention period used to limit walking directions requests.
8 October 2026 — A native ad was added below the 「Explore」 content and a banner below the 「Suggested routes」 list. Native ads may include images or video.
5 October 2026 — Google AdMob banner ads from version 1.0.6. What they receive and how to refuse is under 「Advertising」.
27 September 2026 — the 「Traveler board」 was added. Posts are stored on this app's server and anyone can read them. Google Cloud Translation is used again, for translating board posts. Bus positions and arrivals now come from the Gyeongju Traffic Information Center through this app's server.
27 September 2026 — Kakao Map was added for bus routes. When you look up a bus, the coordinates of the start and the destination go to Kakao through this app's server.
24 September 2026 — sign-in and accounts were removed. Writing a review in the app went with them; the app now reads the reviews on Google Maps instead. Reviews, reports, blocks and profile rows are gone from the server, and kept places moved onto the phone. With no reviews to translate, Google Cloud Translation is gone from this page too.
21 September 2026 — the menu reader was removed from the app, so photographs of menus and Vertex AI are gone from this page.
