Story · A hall with a door for a dragon
History
Begun by King Munmu and finished by his son King Sinmun in 682. Today the building sites and a pair of three-storey stone pagodas, east and west, remain.
Legend
A space open to the east was left beneath the main hall so that Munmu, now a dragon, could come and go from the sea, it is said.
In King Sinmun’s reign a small island is said to have floated up off Gameunsa, its bamboo splitting in two by day and joining by night. A flute made from it drove off enemies and cured illness, and it was named Manpasikjeok, the flute that calms ten thousand waves.
