History

The Samguk sagi notes that in 760 two bridges, Woljeonggyo and Chunyanggyo, were built over the Muncheon stream south of the palace. Lost by the Joseon period, it left only stone pier bases; after excavation it was rebuilt, with its gate towers finished in 2018.

Legend

The monk Wonhyo, coming down from Namsan, is said to have fallen into the Muncheon on purpose while crossing its bridge, Yugyo. He stayed at Yoseok Palace to dry his clothes, and Princess Yoseok later bore the scholar Seol Chong, the story goes.
