Story · The land Talhae won by a trick
History
Site of the Silla royal palace, also called Banwolseong, Half-moon Fortress, for its shape. The Samguk sagi dates its walls to 101; excavations point to the 4th–5th centuries.
Legend
This was once the house of a man named Hogong, until the young Talhae took it by a clever trick. Hearing of it, King Namhae made Talhae his son-in-law, and Talhae later became king, it is said.
Bihyeongnang, raised in the palace under King Jinpyeong, is said to have slipped over the walls of Wolseong every night to roam with goblins. When the king ordered a bridge, he had the goblins build one of stone in a single night, and people called it Gwigyo, the Goblin Bridge, the story goes.
