Story · The Divine Bell of King Seongdeok

History

The great bell in the grounds was begun by King Gyeongdeok in memory of his father, King Seongdeok, and finished in 771 under King Hyegong. A tale says a child was cast into it, which is why it is nicknamed the Emille Bell; no record bears this out.

The first Silla gold crown came to light in 1921, when a household in central Gyeongju dug up its back yard to enlarge it and struck a tomb, since named Geumgwanchong, the Gold Crown Tomb. Silla gold crowns are on display in the museum.
