Story · Where Wonhyo stayed
History
Founded in 634 under Queen Seondeok. Its pagoda is built of stone cut to look like brick. The Samguk yusa says the Silla monk Wonhyo lived here.
Legend
When Wonhyo died, his son Seol Chong is said to have ground his remains into a clay likeness of him and enshrined it at Bunhwangsa. As Seol Chong bowed beside it, the statue turned its head toward him and stayed that way, the story goes.
